Amongst others, Mr. Rashed Rabbi, President, Health Reporter Forumalong with the representatives of Print & Electronic Media from The Daily Ittefaq, Daily Bhorer Kagoj, Daily Manab Zamin, The Daily Observer, The Daily Sun, The Business Standard, Daily Jugantor, Daily Bhorer Akash, News24, Amader Somoy, Baisakhi TV, SA TV, Independent TV, and Nodi TV attended the said workshop.
The media, along with other agencies, plays an important role in corruption detection and promoting transparency and accountability in the water sector. The objective of the workshop was toenhance the awareness of media personnel on water integrity issues to play a more effective role in water integrity campaigns and to build a positive perception of integrity management among mainstream media professionals.
The consultation workshop was presided over by Mr. S.M.A Rashid, Executive Director, NGO Forum for Public Health, and moderated by Mr. Kazi Monir Mosharof, Project Focal, NGO Forum, and Coordinator, BAWIN. The keynote has been presented by Mr. Sanjoy Mukherjee,Social Development Expert, CFSC, Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE). Mr. Mukherjee emphasized on developing all utilities including WASA and DPHE as people-friendly institutions through integrity management practices. He also urged the media to be more effective in ensuring the accountability of these institutions.
In his statement, Mr. S. M.A Rashid expressed his interestin working together with the government and development agencies to achieve SDG-6 by 2030. He stated that to ensure safe water and sanitation for all by 2030, all stakeholders shall work together to implement the national plan and strategy paper related to Water and Sanitation. Access to safe water is a human right, and he called on media workers to come forward to ensure this human right and highlighted the water problem of people in backward hard-to-reach areas.
Mr. Kazi Monir Mosharof called upon the media and BAWIN members to engage in various integrity awareness activities and integrity campaigns to increase the practice of integrity management tools. He also highlighted the role of media workers and their key responsibility to disseminate the issue of water integrity in all areas.
On behalf of Water Integrity Network (WIN), Berlin, Ms. Ruchika Satish thanked the media representatives and wished the whole-hearted contributions of media workers, BAWIN members, and other stakeholders in establishing integrity in the WASH sector.
